After a long winter I was pumped to be back at the track and kick off 2016 in Daytona! Hormone Therapeutics would join myself and Premium Motorsports on the #49 truck to kick the season off right. We had a beautiful truck that was fresh and ready for a great run. The truck that we brought to Daytona was the same truck that we ran at Talladega in the fall of 2015. We had great expectations for this race because of how well we ran in that Talladega race just a short time ago. For those who don’t remember, we ran up inside the top 10 most of that race with a late crash with 6 laps remaining that cost us our great finish.

With some added details to our speedway truck, we were ready for the same results. There are so many ways drivers can approach Daytona. As the green flag dropped our strategy was to find some other veterans that wanted to take risk off the beginning of the race by riding just off the lead draft. This ended up working very well throughout the race. We made he appropriate changes all night to our truck and in the mean time we were also missing the big wrecks as the race progressed. When the time felt right I began to take our #49 Truck back to the front.

A late caution set up a “Green, White, Checkered” 2 lap shootout. For this last restart of the race, we would start in the 7th position. I knew I would have an outside chance to win this race so I tried to get all I could get when we took the green. As we made our way around the track and took the white flag I began to see the 2 lead trucks get together and start to spin. I maneuvered to the apron to miss the wreck but at the very last moment another truck drove into me from behind, spinning me into the wall to end our shot at a top 5 finish. However I was able to fire the truck back up to limp it back to the start finish line for a 14th place finish.

Even though the results weren’t what we had wanted, I am very thankful to still get a solid finish to start the year and continue my dream of racing in NASCAR! This was all made possible by the support from Hormone Therapeutics and Premium Motorsports. Our next race we head to is Atlanta next week, so looking to rebound for an even better finish!
